The 2012 Summer Interns at Carnegie

This year we welcome five undergraduate Summer Scholars to the Geophysical Laboratory.  The students will be with us for 10 weeks, working on their own research projects under the direct supervision of a member of the GL staff. A research symposium, at which the students will present the results of their work, will take place on Wednesday, August 8 at 11:00 am in the Greenwalt Lecture Hall.  The program is coordinated by GL Research Scientist Stephen Gramsch.

Juliana Mesa Garcia (Universidad EAFIT in Colombia) is working with Anat Shahar on a project combining petrology and geochemistry.

Tim Nelson (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) is working with Adrian Villegas-Jimenez on interactions of biomolecules with mineral surfaces.

Viktor Rozsa (Hillsdale College) is working with Tim Strobel on synthesis and characterization of hydrogen-rich systems.

Nichole Valdez (Colorado College) is working with Stephen Gramsch on high-pressure crystal chemistry.

Louis Loubeyre (University of Paris, VII) is working with Muhetaer Ahart on Brillouin and Raman Scattering Techniques.

Thomas McHale (Montgomery Blair High School) is working with Ronald Cohen on simulation of electro-caloric materials using molecular dynamics.

Maimon Rose (University of Chicago) is working with Ronald Cohen on investigating the electrocaloric and piezoelectric effects in LiNGO3 and PMN-PT using MO simulations.
