Abstract
The silicate solubility in
aqueous fluid in melt+fluid systems with 80 mol % SiO2,
20-14 mol % Na2O, and 0-6 mol % Al2O3
at 0.8-2.0 GPa and 1000°-1300°C is in the 3-20 mol% range
with a positive temperature- and pressure-dependence. The solution
behavior in aqueous fluid is incongruent. The partition coefficient,
Doxidefluid/melt, ranges between 0.02 and 0.5 for Na2O,
0.01 and 0.2 for Al2O3, and 0.01 and 0.4 for SiO2,
and increases linearly with increasing oxide content of the fluid
(decreases with oxide content in the melt). Partial molar volume
of H2O in the silicate-saturated fluids, H2Ofluid, is in
the range 17-25 cm3/mol. Compared with the molar volume of pure
H2O, V°H2O, the H2Ofluid values are 10-15 %
lower at 0.8 GPa and as much as 15 % higher than V°H2O
at 2.0 GPa. This volume difference diminishes as the system become
more aluminous.
